Wellstart International is a nonprofit organization with (501) (C) (3) tax deductable status. It was launched originally as the San Diego Lactation Program (SDLP) in 1979-1980. Initially the SDLP was within the Department of Community and Family Medicine of the University of California San Diego Medical School and was a component of the perinatal services and teaching of the University of California San Diego Medical Center. In 1983 with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) SDLP added an international faculty education and development program, The Lactation Management Education Program (LMEP).

Mission is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

The WBTi is a flagship programme of IBFAN Asia that initiates a participatory assessment of the strengths and weaknesses in the 10 areas of policies and programmes meant for implementing the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding. The WBTi works on the philosophy that when people collectively find gaps, it stimulates themto find solutions. The WBTi works as a tool for this action; while it acts as a lens to find out gaps, but later the process brings action at the national level. It is PARTICIPATORY, it is ACTION and it is SIMPLE RESEARCH. The national groups analyse the findings and build set of recommendations. Action generated at the national level includes advocacy and working with the Governments and other partners to bridge the gaps

Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) was founded on 3rd Dec., 1991 at Wardha, Maharashtra. BPNI is a registered, independent, non-profit, national organization that works towards protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding of infants & young children. BPNI believes that breastfeeding is the right of all mothers and children. BPNI works through advocacy, social mobilization, information sharing, education, research, training and monitoring the company compliance with the IMS Act. BPNI does not accept funds or sponsorship of any kind from the companies producing infant milk substitutes, feeding bottles, related equipments, or infant foods (cereal foods).

IBFAN aims to promote the health and well being of infants and young children and their mothers through protection, promotion and support of optimal infant and young child feeding practices.IBFAN works for the universal and full implementation of 'International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes'and subsequent relevant World HealthAssembly (WHA) resolutions.

WABA is in consultative status with UNICEF & an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
